First Steps

I started my degree in translation a decade ago. Before that, I thought that translation was nothing more than writing down the equivalents of the words, which AI would be able to do soon. Well, AI can, but not like us. However, as I studied in my department, I realized that humans will play a very important role in this field, no matter how good translation tools are.

Although I still remember the ABC song from my first linguistics class, after our teacher told us we had no idea what English was, and our Turkish teacher told us we did not even know our native language and gave us books in bulk, I had many opportunities to build confidence in translation. The program I attended was somewhat versatile.

I specialize in both technical translation and audiovisual translation. During my education, I have taken many courses related to them, including the following:

Audio-visual Translation

In all these subjects, I found great chances to apply the theories and translation techniques I learned. Furthermore, I took Project Management for Translators I-II, which helped me develop an understanding of how to manage translation projects.

Career

I began my translation career in my first year in the department, focusing on audiovisual translation. Alongside a team of two, we managed our own projects by subtitling and translating Turkish TV series into English for an online streaming platform.
